Nobska Light overlooks Woods Hole Harbor, keeping ships from danger on Hedge Fence and LHommedieu shoals. The present lighthouse was built in 1876, replacing a smaller one built in 1828. Its base is built 87 feet above sea level and the tower is 42 feet tall. Its flash comes every six seconds and can be seen for sixteen miles. The light is constructed so that ships in safe waters see a white light, while those near the shoals see red!
